Banyan Counseling Center, Inc., was founded in 1995 by Martha L. Harris, LCSW, CHT, TFT.

She has certifications in Hypnotherapy and Thought Field Therapy and has over 20 years’ experience in mental health.

Martha received her social work degree from The Catholic University of America in 1989. After working for several years as a Clinical Director for a psychosocial day program and later as a social worker for a local hospice program, she decided to go out on her own and start her own private practice.

The name she chose, Banyan Counseling Center Incorporated(BCCI), has important meaning. Take a moment and think about how a banyan tree grows. As a banyan tree’s branches extend out from its trunk, roots drop down to the earth. From these roots, new trunks are formed and the tree can grow to several blocks in length. Martha felt that symbol, creating new anchors while continuing to branch out in your life as you grow, would be a proper symbol for her theory of life.

Martha brings to her practice an inherent belief that all people deserve a stress-free life and it is possible to achieve happiness. The therapy process does not have to be a long one for you. It can be a very positive way to help you in your journey to attain your life goals and the happiness you are seeking.
